Kilims are flat-woven rather than knotted: coloured weft threads are woven tightly through the warps, so there's no pile. That makes them thin, light, hard-wearing and usually reversible.
- Much thinner than a pile rug – that's how kilims are made
- Small slits where two colours meet are a traditional feature of the weave
- Most can be turned over and used on either side, doubling their life
- Always use a good rug underlay – kilims are light and can slide
- Vacuum on a low setting without the rotating brush, and flip it over now and then
- Blot spills straight away – never rub
- Have it professionally cleaned every 3–5 years
