Classic Oriental rugs are hand-knotted one knot at a time, following designs that have been passed down for generations. The more knots, the finer the detail – and the longer the rug takes to make.
- Tiny irregularities in the pattern or edges are the mark of a hand-knotted rug, not a fault
- The colours look lighter or darker depending on which end you view it from – that's the pile direction
- A little fibre shedding in the first few weeks is normal with hand-spun wool
- Vacuum regularly on a low setting, without the rotating brush, and never over the fringes
- Rotate every 6–12 months so it wears and fades evenly
- Blot spills straight away with a clean cloth – never rub
- Have it professionally cleaned every 3–5 years
