Fine Mamluk rug-245cmx168cm

The Rug Story:

The name Mamluk originates from the Mamluk dynasties that ruled Egypt from 1250-1517. They had great artistic and cultural influence that spread wide and far in many areas including weaving and this can still be seen in the carpets produced to this day. Mamluk rugs have a central medallion motif which is surrounded by smaller geometric patterns and typically they have a kaleidoscope effect. The central medallion design has more recently been found in many other rugs from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. They are made using 100% natural material and tend to be woven in larger sizes. The wool used is hand spun using traditional methods and dyed with natural plants and vegetable dyes.
